1. to inform or give information to (a person)
    about (something):
  ေျပာၾကားသည္။
    He told the whole story to John.
  ျဖစ္ေၾကာင္းစံုကို ဂၽြန္အား   ေျပာျပသည္။
2. to order or command; to suggest or warn:
  အမိန္႕ေပးသည္။ သတိေပးသည္။
    I told him to go away.
  သူ႕အား ကၽြန္ေတာ္   ထြက္သြားခုိင္းသည္။
3. to say or express in words:
  ေျပာသည္။
    to tell lies/the truth/a story.
  လိမ္ေျပာသည္/အမွန္ေျပာသည္/   ဇာတ္ေၾကာင္းေျပာသည္။
4. to distinguish; to see (a difference); to know
    or decide: ခြဲျခား၍သိသည္။
    Can you tell the difference between them?
  သူတို႕ရဲ႕ ျခားနားမႈကို သိရဲ႕လား။
    I can't tell one from the other.
  တစ္ခုနဲ႕တစ္ခု မခြဲျခားႏိုင္ဘူး။
5. to give away a secret:
  ဖြင့္ေျပာသည္။

    Note: tell is used when some information is
              passed from one person to another:
              Tell me your name, not say me your
              name.
say means to utter: Say your
              name

              say = ဆိုသည္။

    would not wish to be known):
  ေဖာ္ေကာင္သဖြယ္ျဖစ္ေသာ။   ေဖာ္ေကာင္လုပ္ေနေသာ။
    the telltale signs of guilt.
  အျပစ္က်ဴးလြန္ေၾကာင္း       ေဖာ္ေကာင္လုပ္ေနသည့္   သဲလြန္စမ်ား။
    I told you so I told or warned you that this
    would happen, had happened etc, and I was
    right: ငါေျပာသားပဲ။
    'I told you so, but you wouldn't believe me.'
  ‘‘ငါေျပာသားပဲ၊ မင္းက   မယံုဘဲကိုး’’။
    tell off to scold: ဆူသည္။   ၾကိမ္းသည္။
    The teacher used to tell me off for not doing
    my homework.
ကၽြန္ေတာ္အား   အိမ္စာမလုပ္၍ ဆရာမက   တစ္ခ်ိန္တုန္းက ဆူေလ့႐ွိခဲ့သည္။
    (n ,telling-'off: He gave me a good telling-off).
  သူသည္ ကၽြန္ေတာ့္အား   ေကာင္းေကာင္းၾကိမ္းသည္။)
    tell on
1. to have a bad effect on:
  ထိခိုက္သည္။
    Smoking began to tell on his health.
  ေဆးလိပ္ေသာက္ျခင္းက   သူ႕ က်န္းမာေရးကို   ထိခုိက္လာသည္။
2. to give information about (a person, usu if he
    is doing something wrong):
  တုိင္ေျပာသည္။
    I'm late for work - don't tell on me!
  ကၽြန္ေတာ္ အလုပ္ေနာက္က်တယ္၊   တိုင္ေတာ့မတိုင္နဲ႕။
    tell tales to give away secret or private
    information about the (usu wrong) actions
    of others: အတင္းအဖ်င္းေျပာသည္။
    You must never tell tales.
  သူမ်ား အတင္းအဖ်င္း    မင္း ဘယ္ေတာ့မွၽမေျပာနဲ႕။
    tell the time to (be able to) know what time
    it is by looking at a clock etc or by any other
    means:   အခ်ိန္ကို ေျပာႏိုင္သည္။
    He can tell the time from the position of
    the sun.
ေန၏   အေနအထားကိုၾကည့္၍ သူ   အခ်ိန္ကို  ေျပာႏိုင္သည္။
    Could you tell me the time, please?
  ဘယ္အခ်ိန္႐ွိျပီလဲ ခင္ဗ်ာ။
    there's no telling it is impossible to know:
  မေျပာႏိုင္။ မသိႏိုင္။
    There's no telling what he'll do!
  သူ ဘာလုပ္မယ္ဆိုတာ   မသိႏိုင္ဘူး။
    you never can tell it is possible:
  (ျဖစ္ခ်င္ျဖစ္မယ္)   ဒါ ေျပာလို႕မရဘူး။
    It might rain - you never can tell.
  မိုးက ႐ြာရင္႐ြာမယ္၊   ေျပာလို႕မရဘူး။
