1. to put a question:

ေမးျမန္းသည္။
    He asked me what the time was.
  ဘယ္အခ်ိန္ရွိျပီလဲဟု ေမးသည္။
    Ask the price of that scarf.
  ဟိုလည္စည္းပ၀ါ ဘယ္ေလာက္လဲလို႕   ေမးလိုက္ပါ။
    Ask her where to go.
  ဘယ္သြားရမလဲလို႕ သူ႕ကိုေမးပါ။
    Ask him about it.
  ယင္းကိစၥ သူ႕ကိုေမးပါ။
    If you don't know, ask.
  ခင္ဗ်ားမသိလွၽင္ေမးပါ။
2. to express a wish to someone for something:
  ေတာင္းခံသည္။ ေမတၱာရပ္သည္။   ဆႏၵတစ္ခုကို ေဖာ္ျပသည္။

    I asked her to help me.
  ကၽြန္ေတာ့္ကိုကူညီရန္   ေမတၱာရပ္ခံသည္။
    I asked (him) for a day off.
  ခြင့္တစ္ရက္ေပးရန္   ေတာင္းခံသည္။
    He rang and asked for you.
  သူဖုန္းဆက္ျပီး ခင္ဗ်ားကို ေမးတယ္။
    Can I ask a favour of you?
  ကၽြန္ေတာ့္ကို တစ္ခုေလာက္   လုပ္ေပးႏိုင္မလား။
3. to invite: ဖိတ္ေခၚသည္။
    He asked her to his house for lunch.
  ေန႕လယ္စာစားရန္အတြက္   သူ႕အိမ္သုိ႕ဖိတ္သည္။
    ask after to make inquires about the
    health etc of:
  မာေၾကာင္း သာေၾကာင္းေမးသည္။
    She asked after his father. သူဖခင္၏   က်န္းမာေရး အေျခအေနကို ေမးသည္။
    ask for
1. to express a wish to see or speak to
    (someone): ေတြ႕လိုေၾကာင္း၊   စကားေျပာလိုေၾကာင္းေျပာသည္။
    When he telephoned he asked for you.
  သူတယ္လီဖုန္းဆက္တုန္းက မင္းကို   ေတြ႕ခ်င္တဲ့အေၾကာင္း ေျပာေသးတယ္။
    He is very ill and keeps asking for his
    daughter. ဒၶ၊နာစၦသူသိပ္ကို   ေနထိုင္မေကာင္းျဖစ္ေနျပီး သူ႕သမီးကို   ေတြ႕ခ်င္တဲ့ အေၾကာင္း   တစ္ေမးတည္းေမးေနတယ္။

  (မႏွစ္ျမိဳ႕စရာ တစ္စံုတစ္ခုကို)   ဖိတ္ေခၚေနသကဲ့သို႕။
    Going for a swim when you have a cold is
    just as asking for trouble.
  အေအးမိစဥ္ ေရသြားကူးျခင္းသည္   ကုိယ္ဒုကၡကိုယ္ရွာရာ ေရာက္သည္။
    for the asking you may have (something)
    simply by asking for it:
  ေတာင္းခံ႐ံုျဖင့္ (တစ္စံုတစ္ခုကို)   ရရွိႏိုင္သည္။
    This table is yours for the asking.
